This year, Halloween will be on Halloween in Tangipahoa Parish

Times Report

Ponchatoula, Independence to celebrate Halloween on the day itself, October 31, 5-8 p.m. for trick-or-treaters.

Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson preferred the date, partly because Tangipahoa Parish decided to adopt the actual Halloween date, allowing parish and city to celebrate the spooky holiday at the same time, thereby limiting the exposure of children to traffic and other perils.

Independence is taking the same tack, in-sync with the parish.

Halloween is a Celtic feast (Samhain) celebrating the night when the world of man and the world of spirits are closest.
